Emer Heavey MA UKCP PG Dip DMT
Born in Ireland in 1962, my background is in various forms of bodywork. I studied contemporary dance in my teens and early twenties, and then changed route to study non-stylised movement for ten years in the UK, with Sandra Reeve, with whom I trained to teach 'Move into Life". Other teachers I have studied with include: Ruth Noble, Suprapto Suryodarmo and Linda Hartley.
I qualified as a Dance Movement Therapist (PG Dip DMT) in 1992, and also practiced Therapeutic Massage. As well as having a private practice and facilitating groups for over thirty years, I worked for five years for a Bristol based charity, supporting the families of children with life-threatening illnesses, and in a residential setting, with women recovering from drug and alcohol dependency.
This led to my interest in psychotherapy, and an MA in Core Process Psychotherapy in 2003. I am UKCP registered and also offer supervision. I am qualified in Mindfulness based Supervision (OPAL). Essential movement arose out of over 30 years of studying non-stylised approaches to movement. It is influenced by my work as a psychotherapist, my personal movement and meditation practices, and my inner work as a student of the Ridhwan School for fifteen years. I am committed to my own journey of healing and creativity. This is supported by my life in
the countryside, a love of dance and painting, and a sense of humour.
